No one has ever seen God,
not so much as a glimpse.
This one-of-a-kind God-Expression,
who exists at the very heart of the Father,
has made him plain as day.
John 1:17-19
At the age of 17 my grandfather left the Netherlands alone, boarding a ship bound for the US. Arriving at Ellis Island in New York, he made his way to Grand Rapids, MI. The rest of his story is rather involved; so, I shall get to the point.
He began a business, the tools of which were a pitch fork, horse and buggy. Traversing the muddy roads required the concentrated effort of the horse. So, my grandfather put blinders on the animal.
Beyond our field of vision there may be many details about the nature of God. The learned leaders of Jesus’ day focused on these. “You carefully study the Scriptures. But you refuse to come to me to have that life.” (John 5:39-40) However, the scriptures have but one focus: JESUS. He alone is able to direct our path to the Father: “No one approaches the Father except through me.” (John 14:6) Whatever we are to know about God, Jesus is “the Beginning and the End, the First and the Last.” (Revelation 22:13)
Pay close attention! “No one has ever seen God, not so much as a glimpse. This one-of-a-kind God-Expression, who exists at the very heart of the Father, has made him plain as day.” (John 1:17-19) HEART: “one’s innermost character, feelings, or inclinations.” (Merriam-Webster Dictionary) Jesus has revealed “the very heart of the Father.” So, when you view Jesus … all of his words and actions … you’re seeing the Father’s deepest disposition towards YOU!
