Advent – Why Jesus Came III

JESUS CAME TO REVEAL THE CHARACTER OF GOD
Christ is the visible expression of the invisible God.” (Colossians 1:15).
It is in Christ that God gives a full and complete expression of himself.” (Colossians 2:9)

JESUS CAME TO REVEAL AN AUTHENTIC HUMAN BEING
“Behold the man!” (John 19:5)
“You have begun life as the new man, who is out to learn what he ought to be, according to the plan of God.” (Colossians 3:8)

JESUS CAME TO CONQUER DEATH

BACKGROUND

        I. THE BEGINNING

God took the Man and set him down in the Garden of Eden
to work the ground and keep it in order.
God commanded the Man, “You can eat from any tree in the garden,
except from the Tree-of-Knowledge-of-Good-and-Evil.
Don’t eat from it. The moment you eat from that tree, you’re dead.”
Genesis 2:15-15

See Him in a manger lay He of whom the prophets say See Him in a manger lay He of whom the prophets say
Shall bear the sin of man  Just a little baby boy Wrapped in cloth Spotless Lamb of God
We’ve waited for this day Behold the Lamb that was slain Before the world began
Redemption of mankind Salvation for all time
The Holy One has come

Little child in a manger lay born to die
Born to take all our sins away Born to be crucified
Heaven gave up a son that day Hear his Father’s cry
Sent to bear both the cross and the grave
Sinner’s perfect supply

O come, Thou Rod of Jesse, free
Thine own from Satan’s tyranny;
From depths of hell Thy people save
And give them victory o’er the grave.

     II. THE ENDING

I saw Heaven and earth new-created. Gone the first Heaven,
gone the first earth, gone the sea.
I heard a voice thunder from the Throne:
“Look! Look! God has moved into the neighborhood,
making his home with men and women!
They’re his people, he’s their God.
He’ll wipe every tear from their eyes. Death is gone for good—
tears gone, crying gone, pain gone—all the first order of things gone.”
Revelation 21:1-4

Good Christian men, rejoice,
With heart and soul, and voice;
Now ye need not fear the grave:
Jesus Christ was born to save!
Calls you one and calls you all
To gain his everlasting hall.
Christ was born to save!
Christ was born to save!

Hail, the heav’n-born Prince of Peace!
Hail, the Son of Righteousness!
Light and life to all He brings,
Ris’n with healing in His wings.
Mild He lays His glory by,
Born that man no more may die,
Born to raise the sons of earth.

No more let sins and sorrows grow,
nor thorns infest the ground;
He comes to make His blessing flow
far as the curse is found,
far as the curse is found,
far as, far as the curse is found.

Mild he lays his glory by,
Born that man no more may die,
Born to raise the sons of earth,
Born to give them second birth.
Risen with healing in his wings,

Light and life to all he brings,
Hail, the Sun of Righteousness!
Hail, the heaven-born Prince of Peace!
